2015 - 2016 Senior Words of Wisdom

Nine seniors were on the first EVER WCA Varsity field hockey team. They took a chance, deciding to play a varsity schedule in their second year as a program. These seniors worked hard, accepted every challenge and truly took our program to the next level.

  1. The bonding inside the team. The girls on the field hockey team are

amazing and I couldn’t have asked for any cooler people than these girls.

  1. Listen to Tswift during practice, do your running parts, and love

your teammates

3. Ephesians 1:7 “ In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”

Emily Andres #25 - forward a.k.a Twinkle Toes 1 year with WCA field hockey

1. Although this was my first year of field hockey, i felt like I’ve been playing with these girls all four years. The field hockey girls bring so much joy and laughter to me. Everyone was so welcoming when I joined the team. This season has brought me new relationships with every single one of these girls and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Thank you so much to all the girls on varsity for making this season one to remember and than you, coach Schmer for all you do for us and for loving us. We love you so much.

  1. The advice I have for the girls next season is to always have fun.

No matter what the score or wins verse loses. Remember to have fun. Build relationships with one another and teach each other new things. Lean on one another on and off the field, love each other, and do it for Him.

  1. John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as

the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Sophie Dunlap #19 - defense / midfielder 2 years with WCA field hockey

1. What I will take away from being apart of the WCA field hockey program is all of the memories and friendships I have made. Yes, it was often difficult at times, the girls on the team made it worth it. This has been my favorite sports team to play for because of the tight bond we have as a team. These girls are some of my closest friends and I'm so happy I was able to play this amazing sport with them.

2. Persevere and be enthusiastic about field hockey! Starting a new sports program is very challenging and we are truly making WCA history. However while we are not Burroughs level players (yet), we are competitive. If you all persevere through the ups and downs of a new team, you all will reach that high level. But have fun while doing it! Be excited about playing and go out on the field with energy and drive to win!

3. Romans 12:12 is a verse that I love. "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."

Avery Drury #26 - defense 2 years with WCA field hockey

  1. I love this team and this program is something that I am going to miss

next year. I love how everyone gets along, we are unique in that. Instead of focusing on each other’s weaknesses, we accept flaws and work on encouraging one another. There has never been a day where I have not left the field in a better mood.

  1. I want to encourage the other girls to work hard and continue to love

each other

  1. Ephesians 2:4-7 “ But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great

love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved - and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

Maggi Eachus #71 - goalkeeper 3 years with WCA field hockey

1. This team has taught me that there are more important things in life than winning. I’ve learned to enjoy getting to know and work with other people who are very different than me. My favorite part of the season has been all of the laughs we have shared.

  1. Don’t do anything half hearted. Even if you don’t want to do something,

put your whole effort into it and give it your all. The result will be rewarding in the end.

  1. “Insanity is doing the same over and over again and expecting a different result.”

Lindsey Falkner #21 - defense 3 years with WCA field hockey

  1. My favorite part of field hockey has been the incredible coaches who always

offer encouragement. I will also miss this great group of girls, who worked hard to make WCA field hockey a reality.

has an amazing field hockey program.

  1. Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Sophie Harjoe #11 - midfielder 1 year with WCA field hockey

1. At the start of the season I had never picked up a field hockey stick - I just decided to play because my friends were playing and it looked like a lot of fun. But now I realize that I fell in love with the game... You can get all of your stress out by hitting the ball as hard as you can. I love the competition.

  1. If I could give one piece of advice to the underclassmen I would say: Practice

like you are playing in a game. It makes such a difference. this season was such a great experience and I’m so glad I decided to pick up a stick and play.

  1. Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Izzy Haupfear #23- forward 2 years with WCA field hockey

  1. My favorite moment, believe it or not was the Marquette Alton tie. I

loved how much love between the teammates was shown and how we backed each other up even through the very worst case scenario was thrown at us and how much we grown since then. I know from that experience that we were always there for each other and I am going to miss that bond beyond this year.

  1. Words of advice: Listen to your coaches and work hard.

You will whiff more times than you think but don’t let that hold you back. Love your teammates and appreciate every day that you are on the field because I wish my two years could have been more.

Last but not least: Run your 3 laps!

Lucy Kehr #31 - forward 2 years with WCA field hockey
