Meet the PTA

Hi! I'm Deb Shulman, and I'm honored to serve as PTA President. Next year marks my fifth year as part of this wonderful school community, where my children will be in 1st and 4th grade. As a parent of one child in the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program and one in the English-Only (EO) program, I value the unique strengths of both pathways and the importance of bringing our entire school community together.

One of the things I love most about our school is the incredible community that comes together to support our students. I'm passionate about fostering inclusion, creating opportunities for student enrichment, and helping families feel connected and engaged. I believe every parent and caregiver has something valuable to contribute, and I hope to make involvement in our school community accessible and meaningful for all.

When I'm not volunteering with the PTA, I teach geology at a community college and share my love of Earth science with my students. I look forward to partnering with families, teachers, staff, and volunteers to help make this a fantastic year for our students.

¡Hola! Soy Deborah Shulman y es un honor servir como Presidenta de la PTA. El próximo año marcará mi quinto año como parte de esta maravillosa comunidad escolar, donde mis hijos estarán en 1.º y 4.º grado. Como madre de un estudiante en el programa de Inmersión de Doble Idioma (DLI) y otro en el programa de Inglés Únicamente (EO), valoro las fortalezas únicas de ambos programas y la importancia de unir a toda nuestra comunidad escolar.

Una de las cosas que más me gusta de nuestra escuela es la increíble comunidad que se une para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes. Me apasiona fomentar la inclusión, crear oportunidades de enriquecimiento estudiantil y ayudar a que las familias se sientan conectadas y comprometidas. Creo que cada padre, madre o cuidador tiene algo valioso que aportar, y espero contribuir a que la participación en nuestra comunidad escolar sea accesible y significativa para todos.

Cuando no estoy colaborando con la PTA, enseño geología en un colegio comunitario y comparto mi pasión por las ciencias de la Tierra con mis estudiantes. Espero colaborar con familias, maestros, personal escolar y voluntarios para ayudar a que este sea un año fantástico para nuestros estudiantes.

Hello! I'm Kim Hoffstetter, and I am so excited to serve the Valley View community as Executive Vice President of the PTA this year. I'm lucky to have one daughter currently in the 4th grade English-only program. This is my second year serving as a PTA board member, but my first as EVP. I've also had the privilege of being a room parent and a School Site Council member. I love working with the Valley View community and am always blown away by how amazing our families are.

Every family I meet brings something special and unique that makes Valley View better. This year, I'm thrilled to help everyone find their place in our volunteer village. I can’t wait to serve this community and continue giving all of our students the best experience possible.

When I'm not at Valley View, I'm a stay-at-home parent to my daughter.  I am an avid reader, an aspiring writer, a crazy cat lady, a salty beach bum, a self proclaimed Disney nerd, and a crafty woman who is very handy with the glue gun.  I am hoping some of these skills will help me to be the best EVP I can be.  I look forward to an amazing year at Valley View!

¡Hola! Soy Kim Hoffstetter y estoy muy emocionada de servir a la comunidad de Valley View como Vicepresidenta Ejecutiva de la PTA este año. Tengo la suerte de tener una hija que actualmente está en el programa de inglés de 4th grado. Este es mi segundo año como miembro de la junta de la PTA, pero mi primero como Vicepresidenta Ejecutiva. También he tenido el privilegio de ser madre de salón y miembro del Consejo Escolar. Me encanta trabajar con la comunidad de Valley View y siempre me sorprende lo increíbles que son nuestras familias.

Cada familia que conozco tiene algo especial y único que hace que Valley View sea mejor. Este año, estoy encantada de ayudar a todos a encontrar su lugar en nuestra comunidad de voluntarios. ¡No puedo esperar para servir a esta comunidad y seguir brindándoles a todos nuestros estudiantes la mejor experiencia posible!

Cuando no estoy en Valley View, soy madre dedicada a tiempo completo. Soy una ávida lectora, una escritora en ciernes, una apasionada de los gatos, una amante de la playa, una fanática declarada de Disney y una mujer creativa muy hábil con la pistola de pegamento. Espero que algunas de estas habilidades me ayuden a ser la mejor Vicepresidenta Ejecutiva posible. ¡Espero con ansias un año increíble en Valley View

I've been a Valley View parent since 2020 and have 2 daughters, a 4th grader in DLI and a 6th grader at Pleasanton Middle School.  When not volunteering at Valley View, you can find me baking a batch of cookies or winning at pub trivia. I previously served 2 years as PTA Treasurer, and I'm looking forward to continuing to work with the Valley View community to support our students, families and teachers.

He sido madre de Valley View desde 2020 y tengo 2 hijas: una en 4o grado en DLI y otra en 6o grado en Pleasanton Middle School. Cuando no estoy como voluntaria en Valley View, me pueden encontrar horneando galletas o jugando Trivial Pursuit con mi familia. Anteriormente serví 2 años como tesorera de la PTA, y espero continuar trabajando con la comunidad de Valley View para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes, familias y maestros.

Jen and her husband, Eric, are parents to four – a freshman at Utah State University, an 8th grader at PVA/PMS, and two at Valley View: Nolan (5th grade EO) and Genevieve (3rd grade DLI).  She is a former CPA turned part-time family/event photographer, but mainly just a full-time mom. Jen finds great joy in engaging with children and contributing to our school community.

Jen y su esposo, Eric, son padres de cuatro hijos: un estudiante de primer año en la Universidad Estatal de Utah, un estudiante de 8.º grado en PVA/PMS y dos estudiantes en Valley View: Nolan (5.º grado, programa de inglés únicamente) y Genevieve (3.º grado, programa de inmersión dual en español). Jen es una excontadora pública certificada (CPA) que ahora trabaja medio tiempo como fotógrafa de familias y eventos, aunque principalmente se dedica a tiempo completo a ser mamá. Jen encuentra una gran alegría en participar con los niños y contribuir a la comunidad escolar.

Brienne is mom to two daughters, Remy, who is 6th Grade at PMS, and Shay, who is in 5th Grade EO at Valley View. This is Brienne’s second year serving as a board member. She hopes to further the connection between DLI and EO families while also encouraging active participation overall at our school.

Sonata champions making Valley View Elementary a safe, equitable, and fun space for all students and families. As current parliamentarian and former VP of Fundraising and VP of Membership, she has delivered impactful initiatives including the 2022-2023 Fundraising campaign, Fun Run, Kindness Month, Multicultural Fair, and the Los Mustangos Mariachi program.
