Welcome!

Hi! My name is Jean Birks and I am excited to be starting my 27th year teaching. I look forward to my 13th year here at Van Meter.  I am originally from Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School and Buena Vista University. My husband Jay and I have two children;  Taylor graduated from Central College this past May and Molly will be a senior at the University of Iowa.

I am looking forward to another great year of math at Van Meter!  I am super excited to meet everyone and grow many wonderful math minds! My number one priority will be to keep your children safe and provide a physically and mentally heathy environment. There will certainly be new faces to meet and greet and I look forward to seeing and helping all of you.  I can't wait to share our Bulldog Pride!

This summer was so much fun!  It has been fun learning the game of pickleball! I continue to practice my golf game and enjoyed many rounds with my husband and kids! I spent over 40 games umpiring on the softball and Little League Baseball fields.  We vacationed in Florida and spent time with family and friends once again.  I am looking forward to Bulldog & Iowa Football this fall, along with the success in volleyball and cross country.  Go Bulldogs!!
