At Caedraw we have a governing body that plays an important role in ensuring the school continues to maintain and improve standards and follows Welsh Government Education policies.
Our governors often represent a range of stakeholders, such as parents, staff, the local community, and the local authority.
A school governor is a volunteer who plays a vital role in the school. Governors form part of the school's governing body, which is responsible for ensuring the school delivers high-quality education and operates in the best interest of its pupils.
Strategic Oversight: Helping to set the school's vision, values, and long-term goals.
Accountability: Monitoring the school’s performance, including staff effectiveness and pupil outcomes, and ensuring accountability to parents and stakeholders.
Budget Management: Overseeing financial decisions, ensuring that resources are used effectively to benefit the pupils.
Support and Challenge: Acting as a "critical friend" to the school’s headteacher by providing support while also questioning and challenging decisions to foster improvement.
Policy Development: Reviewing and approving school policies to ensure they align with national guidelines and community needs.
Governors play a key role in shaping the school’s direction, ensuring high-quality education, and supporting children’s success. Becoming a school governor is a rewarding way to give back to the community while gaining valuable skills such as leadership, strategic planning, financial management, and decision-making. The role offers opportunities for personal growth, professional development, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, making it a fulfilling experience with lasting impact.
Anyone can become a governor. Governors are appointed for a term of four years on a voluntary basis so, applicants must have time to attend meetings, panels, learning walks and other school occasions.
Volunteers do not need any previous experience of being a school governor or sitting on a board, however, they need to be dedicated to the school and care about improving the education of our pupils.
If you are interested in becoming a Governor please contact the school for information regarding any open positions.
Requests to see authorised minutes from non-confidential Governor meetings can be made by contacting the school secretary.
