The Special Education Department at Waterloo Local Schools has been established to assure that students with disabilities receive a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment. The department is guided by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, as well as the policies and procedures set forth by the Ohio Department of Education and the Waterloo Board of Education.
Students with disabilities between the ages of 3 through 22 are provided with special education services after identification of one of 13 disabilities recognized by the state of Ohio in an Evaluation Team Report. These disabilities include:
Developmental Delay
Autism
Deaf-Blindness
Emotional Disturbance
Hearing Impairment (including Deafness)
Intellectual Disability
Multiple Disabilities
Orthopedic Impairment
Other Health Impairment
Specific Learning Disability
Speech or Language Impairment
Traumatic Brain Injury
Visual Impairment (including Blindness)
Special education services for preschool-aged children are provided. For information about special education services for children between the ages of 3-5 who are suspected of having a disability, please contact the Special Education office at Waterloo Schools at 330-947-2153 ext. 433 to schedule a screening.
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed and reviewed annually for any student with an identified disability based on State and Federal criteria. The required participants an IEP team meeting are:

General Education Teacher(s)
Intervention Specialist
Administrator or District Representative
Students with disabilities may also qualify for Related Services, such as:
Speech-language pathology and audiology services
School counseling services
Physical and occupational therapy
School psychological services
School health services
Orientation and Mobility Services
Specialized transportation services
