Outline Biography

I am from the city of Kifri, in Garmian area of Kurdistan Region, Iraq. I obtained my B.Sc. degree in Biology from the Science Faculty, University of Baghdad, Iraq, and both my MRes in Biomolecular Sciences and PhD in Structural Biology from the University of York, York, UK.

I love science and I find the way 3D structures of proteins determining their functions, amazing. Molecular Vision: The molecular interaction that enables the eye to function, is one of the areas I am interested in. Applying molecular biology techniques to study the environment and pollution is another area of my interest.

I have spent many years in the UK, where I obtained my MRes and PhD degrees, and worked at different universities (York, Lancaster, Glasgow) as a research assistant and a postdoctoral research associate.

I am fluent in Kurdish (my native language), Arabic and English. I have basic knowledge of Persian, Russian and German. My hobbies include reading, cycling, taekwondo, folk Kurdish music, and writing articles and novels, particularly children literature.

Research Interests

1. Protein structure in general: How the 3D structure of a protein is related to its function.

2. The molecular biology of vision: How vision is achieved on a molecular biology level, the protein involved and their interaction.

3. Research that is involved in minimizing pollution and improving the wild life and species protection in Kurdistan.
