Update: We plan on returning to in-person meetings in Fall 2021. Ask us to be subscribed to our newsletter to get updates on our open house!
Weekly Meetings
The heart of Anthropology Club is our weekly discussion meetings. Each week, we meet in the club lounge to discuss a topic in anthropology. Discussion is led and moderated by a club officer. We make sure to switch between all four of the sub-fields. This is also a great place to ask other students for words of wisdom about classes and the field in general or to set up a study group. Everyone is welcome!
Open Houses
At the beginning of each semester, Anthropology Club hosts an open house in the club room. We have snacks and get to talk about the start of the semester and all the fun events we have planned in the calendar. This is a great time to swing by and meet other students, learn about what we do, and grab a snack!
Game Nights
Game nights are a club favorite. Once or twice a semester, we put together an anthropology related game and get wildly competitive in the friendliest of ways. We even have our own infamous set of "Cards Against Anthropology."
Movie Nights
On movie nights we get together to… you guessed it, watch a movie! One of our incredible professors joins us to lead a discussion and reveal just how prevalent anthropological thinking is in film and television.
Tales from the Field
Ever had someone question what people do with an anthropology degree? Tales from the Field reveals how wild our discipline can be! During this annual event, we invite speakers to share their experiences performing fieldwork. Whoever said what happens in the field stays in the field was wrong!
Professor Meet-and-Greets
There are few of us that haven’t been intimidated by a professor before. This event provides a relaxed setting to chat with the wonderful people in our department. Learn about their research, their thoughts on that recent anthropology news story, or maybe what they ate for lunch that day. Whatever it may be, it’s a nice break from the 75 minute lectures you’ve (hopefully) been going to all semester.
Bake Sales
Each year, our club holds a number of bake sales as one of our main forms of fundraising. Sometimes we'll get together for a baking party and then set up camp to share the treats with passing by students.
Paleo Picnic
This is the nerdiest of all barbecues, in the best way possible. At the annual Paleo Picnic we make stone tools and then use them to process an animal. If you're not into Stone Age butchering, there's atlatl throwing, other experiments, and a free lunch.
Field Trips
Last but not least, we like to go out sometimes! Whether it be an anthropology related event or a trip to the zoo, we like to go places and would love you to come with us.
