Hello and welcome to my portfolio!
My name is Zeinab Abdullah. I am majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Language Arts and have started on my English as a Second Language (ESL) minor. I plan to complete my ESL minor after I graduate on April 30, 2022. I am currently a long-term substitute at Becker Elementary School in Dearborn Michigan. I first started as a student teacher, but then the principal observed me while teaching and hired me as a long-term substitute for a 3rd-grade classroom. Teaching my own classroom has helped me develop many skills such as time management, critical thinking, communication and leadership.
There are many reasons why I chose teaching as a profession. First, I love building relationships with students. Building positive relationships with students promote a positive learning environment and help students feel a sense of belonging. When students feel a sense of belong they become more engaged in learning. As an educator, I am able to provide opportunities and change students' lives. Being a teacher is a very rewarding profession.
‘A teacher who is attempting to teach without inspiring the pupil with a desire to learn is hammering on cold iron.’
