Reflect on your teaching effectiveness
I know my students are learning by using different types of assessments. I use exit tickets to help me determine whether I need to reteach certain concepts. I check homework and provide feedback. I also use questions throughout my lessons to ensure that every student is engaged and is understanding the lesson. I also use checklists to see if my students are meeting their goals. I conduct conferences with my students and we go over their work and set goals together.
Maintain accurate records
I collect data in many different ways. The first way is through pre and post-assessments. I use pre-assessments to determine my students' background knowledge. I give the pre-assessment again at the end of the module to check my students' growth. I am able to compare the results to see the improvement. I conduct running records every Friday to see where my students are with their reading levels. I keep the forms in a safe place and I don't share them with anyone. When it comes to quizzes and exams, I first record students' scores on a spreadsheet, so I can have a physical copy and then I enter the grades into the grade book. I have students take their quizzes and tests home and get them signed by their parents and then bring them back. Each student has a folder where I keep all their work until parent-teacher conferences. I also collect data through observations. I write anecdotal notes for each student. I use a combination of formative and summative assessments. Examples of formative assessments include checklists, conferences, and exit tickets.
Communicate with families
I communicate with families about their children's learning through Class Dojo. I use Class Dojo to post the homework, spelling words, announcements and activities we do in the classroom. I send messages to parents regarding their child's behavior and academics. I also communicate with parents in person when they drop and pick up their child.
Participate in the professional community
I am currently a long-term substitute; however, I still work with my cooperating teacher. We plan together and decide on which type of resources we should use. Whenever I have an issue or I need advice I go to my cooperating teacher or other teachers in the building. I work closely with the resource teachers. I have two resource teachers that come to my classroom. I keep them updated with what I am doing in the classroom and what kind of observations I make about my students. I have received feedback from my cooperating teacher and principal. I use that feedback to better my teaching. I have a very close relationship with my colleagues.
Develop professionally
I will continue to grow as a professional by reflecting on my teaching and taking in all the feedback that I receive from my colleagues and peers. Teachers are lifelong learners, so I will continue to study how to improve my teaching. I will use research and data to guide my instruction. I will continue to attend professional development and learn new skills to help my students succeed. I will develop professional dispositions by having a positive relationship with my students and colleagues. I will continue to appreciate the individual differences of students and families and treat everyone with respect and kindness.
