What will it take?

I've been talking with a few of you about how great the discussions have been during the Fellows sessions, and now Tim and I want to know what it would take to translate all of this interest and enthusiasm into products. Those products might be software tools, analyses that end up being publications, or grant proposals to external funding agencies. A few ideas that Tim and I thought of are:

    • A collaborative recruiting effort to hire undergraduates or master's students to do some of the statistical analyses for these projects (where the funds given to senior fellows could be used to pay those students).

    • A blanket IRB approval for most of the projects you have proposed.

    • Some "matchmaking" so that, instead of many of you doing your own project, some of you "singletons," i.e. those of you who applied as individuals, can pair up and do one project, under the theory that many hands make light work.

What are the resources you think would best help you walk away from the Fellows program with a tangible product instead of just the feeling of having had some great intellectual conversations? Which of the ideas above would be helpful? What other ideas do you have? Comment at the bottom of this post so that everyone can participate in this conversation.
