Description of the Project

For my Educational Technology class at UM-D, I created an online classroom using Google Classroom. For this project, I created an online space where students can interact with one another on which I posted articles, videos, quizzes, and assignments for students to complete.

Importance of the Project

This project allowed me to explore the many online resources available to me as an educator. Working on this project made me consider the resources students would find most appealing as well as the relevance of each resource available. As an educator, I believe we should be equipping our students with the necessary tools to succeed in this digital age and this project allowed me to explore the many possibilities the internet provides for educational enrichment.

Skills and Knowledge Gained or Demonstrated

From this project, I gained an understanding of how mainstream media like YouTube and Google can be applied to educational situations. I am excited to see my students show off the technological resources and skills they have and challenge them to apply this prior knowledge to their education.

Tasks Completed

-Learned how to use Google Classroom and its many features

-Created relevant, technologically enhanced assignments for students to complete

-Researched reliable resources and media platforms

-Developed a lesson plan with several instances for assessment

-Provided students the opportunity to explore several online resources

-Provided students opportunities to use and create online resources

Lessons Learned

In creating this online classroom, I learned what it takes to create a functional and engaging lesson using online resources. It took me nearly five hours to create this online classroom, but I wanted to incorporate topics students would find interesting and I wanted to make it as useful to them as I could. Though it may take a little extra time to cross-check the chosen resources and figure out how to use the platform, I think creating an online classroom was a very useful project and I see myself incorporating Google Classroom in my future classroom!
