In my career as an educator it is my goal to include each student in an enriching and diverse literacy experience. Too often children of differing learning abilities and multicultural backgrounds are taught differently; I aim to be the change in this. Through teaching my students texts written by diverse authors with wildly different life experiences in ways that are cognitively and physically engaging for students, I aim to accommodate the different realities of each student in my classroom. It is crucial that young adults read works that include characters going through similar experiences to their own during the lonely stages of growing up, and I intend to introduce each of my students to a character that can aid them in experiencing the hardships of young adulthood without feeling isolated in their own reality. The English Language Arts can be exceptionally difficult for students who have below grade-level literacy rates but with patience and encouragement, I intend to give these students the ample support they need. Not only do I aim to support students in their personal identities and interests, but I also plan to emphasize the importance of exploring and producing relevantly supported, reliable materials in this growing age of media propagated misinformation.
