Árpád GELLÉRT obtained his MSc (2003) and the PhD (2008) in Computer Science at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (LBUS). He also obtained the habilitation in Computers and Information Technology (2023). He is currently working as professor in the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department of LBUS.
His research interests include prediction methods, computer architecture, smart buildings, smart factories, web mining and image processing. In 2004, he collaborated with a research group from the University of Augsburg on a smart doorplate project (person movement prediction in office buildings) resulting in two highly cited publications. He also worked as a visiting researcher in two prestigious European research centers. In 2006 he researched at Barcelona Supercomputing Center from Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Spain) the problem of difficult predictable branches. In 2009, at Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy), he designed a novel load value prediction technique for microprocessors, the results being published in the proceedings of a conference rated B in the CORE ranking. Based on his research findings, he worked with a German team from DFKI on developing a worker intention estimation model for their smart factory vision, with results published in 2023. He has also a strong collaboration with a research team from University of Salerno (Italy) on developing smart energy management systems integrating an advanced forecasting of electricity consumption and production.
He published 7 books (two of them in English) and over 40 scientific papers in prestigious journals and international conferences indexed in Web of Science (Erdős number 4). His works were cited in over 500 different publications (Hirsch index 15). He was a member of several research grants. As project manager he developed a research grant on the subject of his PhD program, supported by the Romanian National Council of Academic Research (CNCSIS). He was the manager of a Horizon 2020 research project, in a partnership with the CENTROPLAST factory from Serbia, financed by DIH-World. He was also the manager of five internal LBUS grants. Recently, he was the manager of a research project funded by the Hasso Plattner Institute.
He was member in the scientific committee of international conferences and served as scientific reviewer for top international journals like Microprocessors and Microsystems, IET Image Processing, IEEE Access, Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing, International Energy Journal, Information, Studies in Informatics and Control, Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, Applied Sciences, Sensors, Energies, Sustainable Cities and Society, Energy Efficiency, etc. He received in 2010 the AD AUGUSTA PER ANGUSTA prize awarded by LBUS for excellence in scientific research.
