Research Group
Dr. Shreeram Inamdar received his BE degree in Civil Engineering, MS in Agricultural Engineering from University of Kentucky and his PhD in Biosystems Engineering from Virginia Tech. His research interests are in studying hydrologic and biogeochemical processes in riparian zones, sediments and watersheds.
Dr. Md. Moklesur Rahman, Postdoctoral Research Associate. Dr. Rahman received his PhD focusing on Nitrogen Biogeochemistry from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Since then he has conducted research in nitrogen and mercury biogeochemistry at Gwangju Institute in South Korea and Umea University in Sweden. At UD, Moklesur will be investigating DNRA and water and sediment biogeochemistry for anoxic milldam sediments; research funded by NSF and USDA grants.
Dr. Joe Galella, Postdoctoral Research Associate. Dr. Galella received his PhD from University of Maryland in Geological Sciences. His PhD research focused on investigating freshwater salinization effects on biogeochemistry. At UD, Joe will be investigating the use of stable N isotopes of soil sediments as a metric for denitrification N removal in floodplain sediments.
Dr. Eric Moore, Postdoctoral Research Associate. Dr. Moore received his PhD from University of Delaware in Plant & Soil Sciences. Working with Dr. Tara Trammell, Eric investigated how nonnative or invasive plant species altered soil biogeochemical cycling. With our group and working on a newly funded 2023 USDA NIFA award, Eric will be investigating how mill dams (existing and breached) have altered physical, geochemical, and microbial properties of riparian soils/sediments.
Matthew Sena, Graduate Research Assistant and a PhD candidate. Matt is funded through a NSF project and is investigating the effects of milldams on riparian sediment/soil and water biogeochemistry and nitrogen processing. Matt received his MS degree from University of Kansas.
Alexis Yaculak, Graduate Research Assistant and a PhD candidate. Alexis is funded via a USDA_NIFA project and is investigating the biogeochemical and microbial functions of relict, historic soils in floodplain restorations. Alexis received her BS degree in Geology from University of Maryland.
Bisesh Joshi, Graduate Research Assistant and a PhD candidate. Bisesh is funded by a USDA-NIFA grant and is investigating the role of suspended sediments in sustaining water column denitrification processes. Bisesh will also investigate the role of milldams in influencing riparian groundwater nitrogen processes. Bisesh received his MS degree in Civil Engineering from University of Memphis.
Rachel Leonard, Graduate Research Assistant and MS candidate in the Water Science & Policy program. Rachel is working with Drs. Peipoch and Inamdar on her MS thesis research and is funded through the Stroud Water Research Center on an NSF project.
