Welcome back! Check out the MALL schedule on the home page for open hours!
The Bro. Todd Ridder, S.M. Musical Arts Learning Lab (MALL) was established in 1995. It is currently housed in Fitz Hall room 457.
The MALL is a multi-use facility with 14 Mac OS X workstations. A variety of synthesizers, microphones, and audio software solutions as well as professional-level hardware mixing equipment is available for students doing advanced projects. In addition to standard general-use software applications, workstations include Finale and Musescore notation software and digital audio utilities such as Logic, Ableton Live, GarageBand, and Audacity (see Equipment & Software for a full list).
Some of the services the MALL provides for UD-related projects are laser printing and braille embossing, digitization of analog sources (including cassettes and LPs), and design and production of CDs and DVDs. The MALL provides (and archives) audio and video recordings of UD Department of Music concerts and recitals which may be purchased by students, faculty and community members. A mini-library is also available for printed resources for conducting, arranging, theory, and music technology. Students may also listen to our large collection of records at our LP listening station.
Students use music technology extensively in music theory, aural skills, music history and literature, composition, arranging, and marching band methods classes. Student workers are available at all times to assist any UD patrons with use of MALL computers and some of the installed software.
Student tutors keep regular hours in the MALL to provide free assistance in music theory and aural skills.
