Accessories
Looking for a small gift for your budding musician? An accessory to aid their performance? Maybe an app to help learning and practicing go a little easier? Here are a few items and apps that should come in handy!
Apps (for any instrumentalist)
SHEET MUSIC STANDS
A sheet music stand is vital for holding your sheet music or method book at the proper height for good posture while playing. Most students use a folding wire stand at home but they can be a little flimsy, especially with a book. So maybe you go a little beefier with the solid metal stand like the ones we use at school
Instrument Stands
An instrument stand allows your student to spend less time each week with assembly/disassembly and more time actually playing. Students are also more likely to practice on their own when they see the instrument sitting out on a stand.
Shoulder Rests for Violin/Viola
Violin & viola players are required to use a shoulder rest on their instrument. The rented instrument includes a very inexpensive version, the sponge. This is an ok starter "shoulder rest", but an actual shoulder rest is highly recommended. It not only aids in posture and comfort but the shoulder rest allows the player to grip the instrument firmly and hold the instrument in an upright position only using their chin. This allows the left wrist and hand to be free and relaxed in order to produce in tune notes, shift into higher positions, and eventually play with vibrato. Recommended brands are: Kun and Everest
Bow Hold Aids
These bow aids instantly position and support all the fingers of the bow hold to form a relaxed and effective bow hold
Everyday Supplies
