For my dissertation, I developed red abalone (Haliotis rufescens) as a model organism to investigate the physiological, developmental effects, and their adaptive potential to future ocean environments. In collaboration with academic, aquaculture and government scientists, I compared the response of developing abalone from different populations of California abalone to projected ocean conditions.
Female red abalone releases bright green eggs.
Gametes were added to replicate larval culture buckets. Larvae passively move from one unit to the other, allowing units to be cleaned daily during planktonic larval phase.
