Department of Forest Biology and Tree Improvement
At the heart of the forestry education are the sciences that deal with forest trees, understanding their biology, conserve, assess the plant and animal relations, and wildlife etc. This department offers courses on Dendrology, Tree Physiology, Genetics, Seed science, Plant Protection, Pathology and Entomology, Microbiology, Conservation and Wildlife. It has six Professors, four Assistant Professors as faculty. The department offers a Master's programme on "Forest Genetic Resources". The largest number of research projects are handled by this department. It has good laboratory facilities such as Tissue culture lab, Tree physiology lab, Pathology lab, Entomology lab, Plant health clinic and Mushroom lab.
Department of Silviculture and Agro forestry
The Department provides basic knowledge to under graduate students and applied knowledge to post graduate students in following aspects of forestry: Nursery management, Plantation Forestry, Principles and Practices of Silviculture, Forest Mensuration, Silviculture of Indian trees, Social forestry and Wasteland management, Agro forestry systems, Energy plantations and World forestry. The department offers a Masters' programme in "Plantation Technology". The department has excellent lab and nursery facilities. The Department has six teaching faculties in various cadres.
Department of Natural Resource Management
The distribution of resources is not uniform worldwide. India is blessed with vast resources of land, water and bio- diversity and forests are the most important among them. The forests are also vital because they act as Watersheds, because of the thick humus layer, loose soil, and soil-retaining powers of the trees' long roots, forests are vitally important for preserving adequate water supplies. Deforestation, particularly in the tropical rain forests, has become a major environmental concern, as it can destabilize the earth's temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels. The Department addresses these issues. Hence the department of Natural Resource Management has an amalgamation of disciplines like engineering, soil science, forestry and social sciences to address the issue of natural resource management through application of Watershed Models, land use planning and research on soil and water conservation measures. The department of NRM was started in the year 2009. The Department has six teaching faculties in various cadres. The department offers a Masters' programme in"Forest Watershed Management” The department has excellent GIS lab facility.
Department of Forest products and Utilization
Forest Products and Utilization is one of the important emerging departments in the forestry sector not only from the point of view of economic contribution to the society, but also calls our attention for their conservation and sustainable use of forest resources. Forest products and Utilization mainly deals about the harvesting, converting and disposal of forest produce and other resources of the forest. The various activities of the department chiefly focus on the development of technologies and skilled manpower that are competent at the national/international level focusing on the following broad areas of forest products. The department is carrying out teaching, research and extension activities and has undertaken various research projects/schemes, many of which have been successfully completed. Presently the department is offers a Masters' programme in "Medicinal and Aromatic Plants". The Department has three teaching staff. The department has a Wood Museum and Food Processing Lab, apart from Laboratory facility
is under construction.
