Mr. Papa Djiby Sambou is a lecturer and researcher at the University Amadou Mahtar Mbow's Graduate School of Architecture, Urbanism, and Spatial Planning in Dakar, Senegal. He earned a Bachelor of Science in geography from the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal, and a master’s in environmental management from the University of Senghor in Alexandria, Egypt. He has always had a strong interest in climate change and water resources in West Africa, to which he devoted his PhD thesis. Papa Djiby's research interests are in the environment-human interaction: how social adaptation influences climate-driven hydrological processes, how adapting to water stress/collapse affects observed social/armed conflict, and a variety of other topics at the intersection of human and geo-sciences questions. He is also interested in the climate related security risks, and educational technology... As an instructional designer at the University Assane Seck of Ziguinchor in Senegal, he was involved in the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of courses and learning resources in a variety of formats (face to face, virtual classroom training, online courses) and themes & topics including sustainable development. He was involved in research projects all over the world: (Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn in Germany, the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy, the Canada Chair in Environmental Education, UQAM, the International Lake Environment Committee Foundation (ILEC) in Japan, and so on...). These experiences enabled him to broaden his horizons and strengthen his research and teaching abilities. He received the French Red Cross Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2019, the Coimbra Short Stay Program for Young Researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa in 2015, and the Best presentation award at the World Lake Conference (Ibaraki, Japan) 2018. Djiby Sambou is the author of several publications. He also works as an international consultant for UNDP in Mali.
