Shohreh Hassanzadeh completed her Master’s degree in Motor Behaviour - Motor Development from the IAU Science and Research Branch, Tehran, Iran. She has conducted her MSc research in Physical Literacy as almost the first researcher in this field in her country in 2017. Shohreh is currently pursuing her Doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Valerie Carson in the Behavioural Epidemiology Lab, since 2022. Her research interests include Physical Literacy and Motor Proficiency in children.
Madelyn Curle completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology at the University of Alberta. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Valerie Carson. Her research interests include screen time and screen time policy’s effect on movement behaviours and health outcomes among adolescents.
Courtney Kennedy completed her Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology and Graduate Diploma in Professional Kinesiology at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She then completed her Master of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary, focusing on the use of technology to evaluate movement behaviours in adolescent athletes post-concussion. Courtney is currently pursuing her doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Valerie Carson, and her research interests centre on understanding the relationships between movement and psychosocial outcomes, with a particular focus on equity-deserving adolescent populations.
Yeong-Bae Kim completed a Bachelor of Nursing at the Kyung Hee University and a Master of Public Health at the Seoul National University in South Korea. She is currently a PhD Candidate in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. Her research interests include social and environmental determinants of physical activity, and the role of physical activity to address global challenges including climate change.
Maddy Predy completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology and most recently her Master of Science in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. Studying under the supervision of Dr. Valerie Carson, Maddy’s thesis focused on correlates of outdoor play in Alberta child care centres. Maddy started as the Research Coordinator for the Behavioural Epidemiology Lab in July 2019 and is happy to be supporting physical activity and sedentary behaviour research in early years children.
Morgan Potter completed her Master of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Valerie Carson. Morgan started as a Research Coordinator for the Behavioural Epidemiology Lab in April 2022 and is happy to be supporting research that aims to better understand the relationships between physical activity, physical literacy, screen time, and children's health.
Cam Kern complete his Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Alberta, before completing his Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Essex in 2025 under the supervision of Dr. Henry Chung. Cam’s dissertation focused on genetic correlations to the enjoyment of exercise. Cam started as a Research Coordinator for the Behavioural Epidemiology Lab in December, 2025 and is excited to be supporting research which promotes physical activity and awareness of healthy lifestyles across the lifespan.
