My Research

Phylodiverse 1KP/10KP sequencing of plant (and other) species is being done with my longstanding partners at BGI, using facilities in Shenzhen, Beijing, and Qingdao. None of the sequencing is done in Edmonton, although computational work may be done here. Samples are provided by collaborators from around the world.

The work that is done in Edmonton is more focused on the medical side. For drug target discovery, we rely on human genetics and not animal models or cell lines. For lead compound discovery, we focus on naturally-evolved peptides and not metabolites. An overview of the underlying concepts is given in the following slides.
