7th Grade Social Studies
Course Description
7th Grade Social Studies is a survey class that will investigate geography skills and non-western cultures around the world. We will start with a unit on geography skills and then move onto regional units that will cover geography, history, economics, social and political structures, international relations, their relationship with the United States, and their cultural contribution to the world. Students will cover Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Students will also learn about the six major world religions.
Student’s Responsibilities
You are expected to arrive in class ready to work with all required class materials. Required class materials are a three-ring binder that contains all other class materials, completed homework assignments, and writing implement. Students are also expected to follow the classroom rules.
Class Policies
General Expectations for Quality Work:
Students will attempt all parts of the assignment, answering all questions completely using supporting evidence when needed
Students will use quality G.U.M. (capitalization, punctuation, spelling, complete sentences, paragraph structure)
Students will turn their work in on-time (at the start of class or it will be considered late)
Late Work Policy:
All assignments lose one grade a day. After one week, the highest grade possible is 25%.

Grading
Students will be evaluated using the criteria below. Some units will end with a unit test, while others will culminate in a project. Quizzes will occur almost weekly. The lowest quiz grade & homework grade each quarter will be dropped. Class participation includes all facets of classroom work, including: group work, in-class assignments, class discussions, behavior and etc. Every week, each student will be expected to turn in a current events assignment. A guideline for the assignment will be handed out at a later date.
