My purpose is to provide an engaging art program that promotes the acquisition and refinement of visual art skills while increasing aesthetic awareness in a way that is meaningful and relevant to students’ lives.
Based on National Core Arts Standards, students will gain knowledge and skills in the creation, presentation, responding, and connections of visual art. Lessons will build upon students’ prior knowledge and skills and will connect to content they are learning in other core areas.
Media practice exercises designed to develop and refine technical skills.
Activities to master the integration of the elements and principals of design in art making.
Project planning activities to foster creativity, connections, and problem-solving to make meaningful artwork.
Critiquing, self-evaluation, and reflection to promote the understanding and application of art terms and concepts.
Quality products to make students and their loved ones proud! Each student will complete 4 or more projects in a variety of art media. Creations will be realistic, abstract, functional and/or decorative.

Assessment will be ongoing by observation, questioning and portfolio reviews. Final grades will be weighted and determined by formative grades (skill-building activities) at 30% and project grades at 70%. Rubrics (grading criteria) will be provided when projects are introduced
When a student is having difficulty I will clarify if they need more understanding or practice and will provide additional instruction and opportunities to practice. Students will be acknowledged for their effort and praised for their success.
When a student shows mastery of the knowledge and skills ahead of their peers, they will be provided with opportunities for enrichment. Resources to further develop their ideas will be made available in the form of additional instruction / tutorials.
Every student will publish their art projects on the Artsonia online Student Art Gallery to exhibit their collection. TMS Artsonia Gallery
This will be a hands-on art studio experience. You will create four original artworks in many different forms including design, drawing, ceramics and painting. Before we start each project you will do exercises to help you gain knowledge and improve your skills. You will become familiar with various tools and materials, practice different techniques, and plan your projects design. You will also explore the artwork of artists and cultures for inspiration and to increase your knowledge and understanding of art.
You will need a pencil, your chromebook and a calm, cool, and cooperative attitude to be successful. You will be provided with a folder to store your work.Art projects need to stay in the classroom until they are completed and returned to you.
You are responsible to complete the assignments that I have shared in Google Classroom. If you need more time or additional help with your project, you may come to the art room during your lunch period after you have eaten. To stay after school have your parent or guardian email me to grant permission and advise me of your plan for transportation home.
It is important to give back to the community that supports you! Your artwork will be put on display in the art room, display cases, hallways, and library for the Troy community to see and enjoy. Your artwork will be published to the Troy Middle School online gallery at the Artsonia website.
