Ways to Work on Math Through Play
- Play math themed games (Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, Hi-Ho Cherry-O, Trouble, Don’t Spill the Beans, Ants in the Pants). We have been working on game play at school, but your son may still need some support to stick with it. This is a great time to teach him this.
- Sorting- sort whatever you have in the house (dump the silverware drawer and have your son sort it back in, sort toys by color or size, sort shoes by size, coins, big and small paper clips, whatever you have)
- Matching- match socks, play memory (play face up for beginners), match crayons or markers
- Count anything and everything- toys, snacks, birds outside; anything
- Make patterns using household items (silverware, coins, cars and trucks, pattern blocks that were sent home)
- Make a shape museum! Collect items from around the house that resemble basic shapes and sort them by shape to create a collection as if you have a museum.
- watch episodes of Numberblocks on YouTube
