Department of Biotechnology

Background

The Agriculture College and Research Institute, Madurai has been in existence since 1965 and Golden Jubilee was celebrated during 2014-15. In order to cater the needs of Agricultural Biotechnology Education and Research in Southern Districts of Tamil Nadu and also to commemorate Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Department of Biotechnology was established in 2014.

Objectives

• To offer "Biotechnology" courses to undergraduate degree program
• To offer the supporting / specialization courses to U. G., / P. G., / Ph. D., students of this campus
• To enhance the laboratory skills of U. G., / P. G., / Ph. D., students undertaking Biochemical / Molecular Biology related research activities
• To take up biotechnology based research on various crops
