Middle School Drama Class
The middle school drama class learns to follow artistic direction in the context of the stage, and develop presentation and performance skills. Trust, respect, and support among peers are nurtured to build confidence in performance situations through games and scenes. The class has been working on monologues, contemporary and original scenes, improvisation, and the great works of Shakespeare.
High School Drama Class
A wide variety of theatre arts experiences are offered through drama class and performances with integration into the school’s curriculum in order to meet the diverse needs of students.
Drama/Acting Class meets one fine arts requirement for graduation and focuses on developing presentation and acting skills (acting in the moment, projection, improvisation, self-esteem, and teamwork)
by building mutual trust and confidence through scene work, acting exercises, and performing polished pieces for school audiences. Students analyze and perform great works of theatre to then model and write original works. They explore and practice techniques developed by Stanislavski, Meisner, and Viola Spolin. Drama/Acting Class is a prerequisite for Advanced Acting in the Theatre Arts.
Advanced Acting in the Theatre Arts.is designed to build upon experiences, the acting and performance skills they developed in Drama/Acting, and further expand their repretoire. These students are leaders in scene work and acting exercises, with opportunities for directing and producing works.
Students school-wide may audition for the winter play or the spring musical, and students of the class are expected to participate in at least one. There are opportunities on stage and behind the scenes which students can choose based on their individual talents and interests. I create a nurturing atmosphere of trust and respect among all participants as students set individual goals, from building self-confidence in expressing themselves effectively in front of others to developing skills for future opportunities in the performing arts.
