Objective:
• To gain an overview of the world’s history, as it relates to many of the great civilizations of the world, with special attention to economics, history, geography, society, military history, and political history.
Course Breakdown:
Marking Period 1
Unit 1 – Foundations of World History: Beginning to 300 C.E. – 3 weeks
· Topic 1 – From Hunter-Gatherer Societies to Classical Civilizations (1.5 weeks)
· Topic 2 – World Belief Systems (1.5 weeks)
Unit 2 – Era 4: Expanding and Intensified Hemispheric Interactions, 300 – 1500 – 6 weeks
· Topic 1 – Crisis in the Classical World, 300-600 (3 weeks)
· Topic 2 – The Rise and Decline of Empires, 600-1500 (3 weeks)
Marking Period 2
· Topic 3 – Networks of Exchange, 300-1500 (1.5 weeks)
Unit 3 – Era 5: The Emergence of the First Global Age, 15th to 18th Centuries (7.5 weeks)
· Topic 1 – “Gunpowder” Empires (2.5 weeks)
· Topic 2 – Europe in Transition (2.5 weeks)
· Topic 3 – A Growing Global Economy (2.5 weeks)

Grading
Your final course grade is a cumulative total of your first 10-week grade, second 10-week grade(80% for MP1/MP2 first semester and MP3/MP4 second semester) and final examination(20% of overall total). Everything is based on a point system. The grades are categorized department wide with BUA multiple choice tests(20%), BUA Essay Tests(5%), Quizzes and Tests(35%), Capstone Projects 30%, and Classwork(10%). This equates to 90% summative assessment and 10% formative assessment. Report card grades use the following scale:
92-100 = A 80-81 = B- 68-69 = D+
90-91 = A- 78-79 = C+ 62-65 = D
88-89 = B+ 72-77 = C 60-61 = D-
82-87 = B 70-71 = C- 0-59 = E
