Teletherapy / Positive Regard Lab

Teletherapy / Positive Regard Lab

The “Positive Regard” group—led by fifth-year doctoral candidate, Daisy Ort—is engaged in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis to investigate the nature of positive regard and affirmation in psychotherapy.

The lab seeks to learn more about the ways the specific ways therapists provide positive regard in psychotherapy. We are currently investigating factors that influence therapists’ decisions about how and when to provide positive regard, the circumstances that make it more challenging to provide positive regard, and the immediate and long-term effects of the provision of positive regard.

This lab is also currently investigating, via quantitative and qualitative methodologies, the changes experienced by clients in psychotherapy since the widespread transition to teletherapy as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
