What are We Learning?

Math

We have been working on multiplication and division. Students are learning that multiplication is a way to represent repeated addition, and division is repeated subtraction.

For example:

• 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10

or 5 X 2 = 10

or Five groups of 2

• 10 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 = 0

or 10 '/. 5 = 2

or 10 shared equally by five groups is 2.

Reading

Writing

• We have begun experimenting with looking at objects through a "poets lens." Students selected an object and brainstormed words that describe the object. Then students began to write a draft of a poem with those words. We will be learning about about using repetition, white space, similies, and other poetry elements in the coming weeks.
