Course Requirement Details
Tests:
Three major tests will allow students to demonstrate and apply their understanding of the grammatical concepts covered in class and in the text. See Programme for dates.
Quizzes:
To encourage regular study and memorization, there will be 6 quizzes. I will drop one grade. See Programme for dates.
Daily Homework:
On the first day of each chapter, students will come to class having read and studied the chapter, completed all the chapter’s exercises, and will be able to show they have corrected them. In addition and on other days, students will have exercises practicing whatever grammar topic we are covering in that chapter.
Attendance & Participation:
Students are expected to attend class and participate actively in all activities. Participation grades evaluate quality of participation and effort. Activities will include practicing grammar concepts and forms both orally and in writing, in-class writing exercises, and in-class listening exercises with discussion.
Ateliers:
An Atelier is like an advanced French Table. 10 are required (though you may substitute up to 3 with two French tables equaling one Atelier). Students prepare by reading at least 1 article in a French-speaking newspaper, sufficiently to recap the article in order to inspire discussion. Please participate actively in the determination of the Atelier schedule and notify me if there are not enough at times you can attend. Participation requires contributing to the discussion for the full Atelier.
E-Portfolio:
The E-Portfolio consists of 4 samples of your best writing of the semester. Choose four of your in-class writing efforts to polish and include. You will also make a two- minute video or 2 one-minute videos for the portfolio.
