TumbleBooks: Traditionally thought of as a picture book platform, Tumblebooks has added chapter books! This site offers a variety of reading choices from animated picture book read-alongs to chapter books. There is also a variety of non-fiction books, many with accompanying educational videos.
Click the 'TumbleBooks' link above on this page
Then under 'Digital Resources' on the top bar, choose 'Digital Library'
Finally, scroll down and choose 'Tumblebooks'
Teach Your Monster To Read: A quick and free sign-up gets your child playing an interactive reading game unlike any other free site out there. There are three levels at which your child may begin reading/play. Choose from "First Steps", "Fun with Words", or "Champion Reader". Kids will beg to "play some more", and when it comes to reading, the answer is always, "Sure!"
National Geographic Explorer - This outstanding, free, high-quality resource is leveled by grade. Choose the reading level of your 'explorer' and investigate this fully digital non-fiction magazine. Tools allow students to have the text read to them and to take virtual notes. Also comes in Spanish edition.
Time For Kids: Read articles meant for kids just like you. Keep up to speed with world news, current events, and interesting topics. All articles can be listened to or translated to Spanish.
Splash Learn - A great PreK - 2 reading game site (just choose the level that is right for you). Quick practice of those early literacy skills. A fun way for kiddos to get some extra practice. Have fun!
Unite for Literacy: Many simple readers that can also be read aloud to your emerging reader.
Starfall: This site is a staple of early literacy learning. It begins with letter recognition and sounds and progresses through early readers. There are many books grouped by a focused sound to help kids get that necessary phonics to visual text connection.
Cookie: Another widely used site to develop early literacy skills. This site is very engaging to kids as it is a games based learning model. Students are required to color letters, match sounds, or read site words. A great site to use as a "reward" for hard work!
Storyline Online: This free site offers excellent picture books read aloud by celebrities. The videos combine modeling fluency with the original artwork presented in an engaging visual presentation. Helpful for both parents and children alike.
World Book Online: This reading and research tool will help to unleash your child's love for reading and learning. Allow them to feel free to investigate any topic they are curious about. Enter Login ID: lre116 and Password: sumner116. Then choose 'Early World of Learning'. Within the site there are some choices up top. Choose 'Read' and then the 'Welcome to Reading' buttons. A set of four leveled readers will come up. Find the set that best matches your child's ability. If you chose the 'Trek's Travels' button you will find books in Spanish.
National Geographic Kids: A good beginner site for research.
StoryNory: Read along with an audio recording of a variety of texts. 6 different genres provide listening and learning opportunities for readers.
