8 Grade General Music (2020-21)

*Class time

-One class meets in person, one class on cohort schedule, as well as one remote learning class on Google Meet every other Wednesdays.

*The Curriculum

This course will continue to review the elements of music learned in sixth and seventh grade as well as exploring the Pop music in America from the early decades up to the current popular musical scene. Students will learn how to critically and analytically listen to music. Through the use of online and offline music technology - synthesizer, they will learn to compose different formats of music compositions such as jingles for commercials, intro music for podcast and news broadcasts, a pop song, and a dance music as well.

You are required to bring your materials to class everyday. Failure to do so will result in lower grade.

*Grading

    • Participation 20% - This is a performance-based course and you will be expected to participate during class. You will need to be on task, alert and participating with the rest of the class to get the most out of the course. Failure to participate fully will result in points being lost and will lower your grade.

    • Classwork 30% - There will be worksheets, written assignments, journals, assessments, short and long term projects, and homework. Some classwork will require to complete during class and any incomplete classwork will need to complete and submit before midnight of the same day of the assignment is given.

    • Composition projects 30% - After learning the tools and the compositional technique, students will compose a pop song and a dance music compositions. A rubric will be provided for students to understand the expectations for the compositions.

    • Late - 10% of grade or no grade will be given when turn in late unless late submission is granted.

    • Un-submitted work - after each unit, any un-submitted work will result in zero grade unless late submission is granted.
