Students entering English 1R are expected to read two books during the summer. One book must be from the list of assigned texts. You can choose the second book. It can be any genre; however, aim to read books you find personally interesting, which also have some complexity and merit.

Only students who read two books (see above) are eligible to receive full credit for this assignment. All students will be required to write a brief essay in class based on a book (or a short story, if the reading was not done). Students who read two books will prepare a book talk in addition to writing an essay.
