STREETSBORO WRESTLING


2022-2023

The Rockets had a very successful season winning both the Metro Athletic Conference and sectional titles as well as finishing 16-3 in dual meets.  They were second in the North Coast Tournament, the prestigious Top Gun Tournament, and the Portage County Tournament.  The team finished fourth in districts with three state qualifiers in Cohen Klimak (2nd), Donovan Paes (2nd), and Anthony Perez (district champion).  Landon Bodovetz and Aidan Carone finished 6th at district.  All five district placers were sectional champions, the most in some time for the Rockets. Cohen Klimak and Anthony Perez both won a match at state while Donovan Paes finished as state runner-up at 132 pounds losing a very close match in the finals.  Paes and Perez were also both Top Gun Champions with Paes taking home the MVP of that tournament, also placing were Hunter Smith and Landon Bodovetz and freshman Anthony Sindelar was 3rd.   Perez won a team high 6 tournament titles on the season.  Paes was also 2nd at the very tough Wadsworth GIT.  County champs were Anthony Sindelar, Aidan Carone, Anthony Perez, and Donovan Paes. Metro champs were Aidan Carone, Anthony Perez, Donovan Paes, Landon Bodovetz and Sam Brunner.  The district qualifiers were Carone, Matt Klimak, Perez, Jacob Joltin, Paes, Hunter Smith, Cohen Klimak, Bodovetz, Brunner, Joey Fedor. 

2021-2022

The team finished in 5th out of 16 at the Clear Fork Tournament.  Sophomore Aidan Carone won his bracket.  Also placing were Matt Klimak, Morgan Harris, Hunter Claar, Jacob Joltin, Hunter Smith, Sam Brunner, Landon Bodovetz, and Joey Fedor.

At the Hudson Tournament the team finished in 8th place.  They were lead by freshman champion Matt Klimak.  Also placing were Morgan Harris, Jacob Joltin, and Cohen Klimak.

At the Portage County tournament the Rockets vied for the lead all day before dropping to third after the final round.  They were led by two time Portage county champion Donovan Paes and sophomore Aidan Carone who also won his weight.  The other finalists were Matt Klimak, Morgan Harris, and Sam Brunner.  The other Rocket placers were Hunter Smith, Cohen Klimak, Alex Shaffer, Kaleb Fisher, and Joey Neal.

The Rockets finished in 2nd at Firestone Duals and 4th at the Twinsburg Duals.  The Rockets have been ranked in the top 25 of the Cleveland Plain Dealer coverage area rankings.

The team finished in 3rd place at the Metro Conference tournament.  Winning league championships at their weight class and earning first team league honors were Matt Klimak, Donovan Paes, and Cohen Klimak.  Second team league honors went to Aidan Carone, Morgan Harris, and Hunter Smith.  

To start the postseason, the Rockets had their best showing at sectionals in over a decade finishing in 2nd place.  The team crowned three sectional champions in Matt Klimak, Morgan Harris, and Donovan Paes and sent 10 wrestlers to the district tournament at Norwalk.

At the Norwalk District, the Rockets finished in 9th place for their second top ten team finish in 4 years.  Eight Rockets won one match and 5 won two.  Cohen Klimak became the first freshman in over 10 years to qualify for state by finishing in 4th place at 150 pounds.  Donovan Paes rolled to a district title with two major decisions, a pin, and a tech fall to remain unbeaten.  He became the second district champion in recent history.  With only two seniors most of the team returns for next season and Paes and Klimak will continue on at Columbus.

Donovan Paes finished 7th in the state at 132 losing two close matches.  He finished his junior year 38-2.  Cohen Klimak wrestled at state as a freshman losing to the eventual state champion in the first round 9-3 before being eliminated in the consolation round.

2020-2021

Tyler Bodovetz capped his senior season with an 8th place finish at state and Donovan Paes finished with a win at state as a sophomore.  At districts, the Rockets finished in 16th place with Tyler Bodovetz taking 2nd and Donovan Paes taking fourth to both qualify for the state tournament.  Morgan Harris won two matches and Sam Brunner also picked up a district win.  In the postseason, the team finished in 5th place at Sectionals with Bodovetz and Paes both capturing sectional titles and Carter Gray, Sam Brunner, and Morgan Harris joining them as district qualifiers.  Tyler Bodovetz finished the regular season undefeated joining Dom Carone as the second Rocket wrestler to accomplish that feat in the past four years.  The high school team finished in 4th place in the Metro conference with Donovan Paes and Tyler Bodovetz both winning the conference title.  Brayden Malloy was also selected as second team all Metro.  The team did well at the inaugural Portage County Tournament finishing in 5th place just 4 points out of third.  Donovan Paes and Tyler Bodovetz both defeated former state qualifiers to become Portage County Champions.  Morgan Harris and Keisean Wilson were both runners up.  The other placers were freshman Carter Gray and Brayden Malloy.  Paes is currently 19-2 on the season and ranked in the top 10 of the state.  Bodovetz is undefeated at 21-0, ranked in the top 15 of the state winning both the Portage County and Hoban Tournament, and reached the 100 win milestone.

2019-2020

Brayden Malloy was the 2020 Coaches' Award winner for his hard work and effort.

Brayden was 2nd team PTC Metro for 182 and placed 4th at sectional while picking up a win at districts last season.

Streetsboro concluded the season with a 16th place finish at the 2020 Alliance district out of 46 teams.  Tyler Bodovetz at 152 and Ashton Smith at 160 finished on the podium.  Tyler finished 5th and will be a state alternate while Ashton was 6th.  Brayden Malloy, Donovan Paes, and Sam Miller all won matches in the tournament.

The Rockets finished in 4th place at the 2020 West Branch Sectional.  7 wrestlers qualified for the Alliance district tournament in Morgan Harris, Donovan Paes, Sam Miller, Tyler Bodovetz, Ashton Smith, Brayden Malloy, and Trevor Jacobs.  Alex Shaffer is a district alternate.  Tyler Bodovetz won the 152 pound weight class in the sectional marking the second year in a row a Rocket has claimed a sectional title.  The Rockets were just 10 points out of a runner up team finish.

Sam Miller and Ashton Smith won the PTC Championship at their weights- both finished undefeated in PTC competition this season.  Tyler Bodovetz and Donovan Paes finished second at the tournament both losing to highly ranked wrestlers.  Mason Dundon and Kyle Dirk finished 5th and Morgan Harris finished 6th.  The team finished in 6th place overall and 4th among Metro teams right behind Woodridge.

The team finished 9-10 in dual meets losing to Lake Catholic in the regional quarterfinal.  The Rockets finished 4-3 in PTC Metro duals.

Sam Miller finished 2nd and Ashton Smith finished 5th at the Bill Dies Memorial Tournament.  It was the second year in a row that a Rocket made the finals of this tournament.

Sophomore Ashton Smith placed 8th at the tough North Canton Holiday Tournament at 160lbs.  Junior Tyler Bodovetz and Senior Sam Miller were a match away from placing as well.

The Rockets won the Clear Fork Invitational with three champions- Donovan Paes, Sam Miller, and Tyler Bodovetz.  Morgan Harris and Ashton Smith were second.

2018-2019 Update

At the state tournament, Hank Carey captured 5th place at 170.  Caiden Rodgers finished 1-2.  

The team finished in 7th place out of 43 teams at the Alliance Division 2 district.  Two Rockets will head to state tournament.  Hank Carey was Streetsboro's first district champion in a number of years and Caiden Rodgers finished 4th to head to state.  Chris Anderson finished 5th to be a state alternate.

The team finished in 4th place at sectionals with 7 district qualifiers in Sean Neff, Sam Miller, Tyler Bodovetz, Caiden Rodgers, Chris Anderson, Hank Carey, and Mike Paden.  

After a 2-5 PTC Metro Dual Season the Rockets dominated the Metro field at the PTC tournament.  Streetsboro finished second overall behind only County division champion Rootstown.  Sean Neff, Chris Anderson, and Hank Carey all won their weight classes and became two time PTC Champions.  Caiden Rodgers and Ashton Smith finished as runners up.  Brayden Malloy and Sam Miller were 4th place and Mason Dundon and Tyler Bodovetz were 6th place.  With the PTC Metro Tournament title, Streetsboro finished just behind Norton and Ravenna for the overall division title.

 

Seniors Hank Carey, Chris Anderson, and Caiden Rodgers reached 100 wins.

The team finished in 8th at the Bill Dies Memorial (3rd among Division 2 teams).  Hank Carey was tournament champion.  Sean Neff was 3rd, Caiden Rodgers was 5th, and Chris Anderson was 4th.  

The team finished in 15th at the very tough North Canton Holiday Tournament behind 2nd placer Hank Carey, 3rd placer Chris Anderson, and 5th placer Caiden Rodgers.

The 2017-2018 team went 9-5 on the season with a 4-3 dual meet record in the PTC Metro.  Dom Carone became a 3 time PTC Champion and Chris Anderson won his first PTC championship as a junior.  Dom Carone, Tyler Bodovetz, Chris Anderson, and Caiden Rodgers were district qualifiers while Tyler Dick and Sam Miller were alternates.  Dom Carone was voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the PTC Metro and became just the 4th Streetsboro wrestler to finish his career as a 3 time OHSAA state placer by finishing 4th in the state.  Additionally, Sean Neff, Chris Anderson, and Hank Carey were first team All PTC selections for their weights while Caiden Rodgers made the second team.  Chris Anderson was voted outstanding wrestler at the annual Hudson tournament as the team finished in 3rd place for their highest finish in years.  Hank Carey was voted outstanding wrestler at Clear Fork tournament where the team finished in second place.  Dom Carone will continue his wrestling career in college as he will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The 2016-2017 team went 14-8 and finished 4th in the PTC Metro.  Sean Neff and Dom Carone were PTC Champions.  7 wrestlers qualified for the district tournament with Dom Carone and Hank Carey making it to Columbus as state qualifiers.  Dom Carone became the first Rocket to reach the state finals since 2004 and took second at the state tournament.
