What's Happening This Week in 2L?
News for the week of: February 9th:
*First Reconciliation is this Wednesday! The students are excited and ready. I am so happy for them to receive this amazing gift of God's mercy and forgiveness! 2L will begin at 6:45. There will be a seating chart at the church entrance, and your family pew will be marked with your child's banner. Dress for the students is church attire. Father Luke will open with a short prayer and welcome. A teacher will come to your pew when it is your child's turn to usher them to a confessional. Family members are encouraged to receive the sacrament as well after their second grader. When all members of the family have finished, please take the candle and program that will be in your pew to the front of the church for a short candle ceremony with Miss Witt. Families may then move to the banquet room for a cookie reception. A hard copy of this information will be coming home in your child's tiger folder today. Please let me know if you have any questions.
*There is a restaurant fundraiser this Tuesday at LaGondols from 4-8pm. Mention St. Philomena and a portion will go to the 8th grade class.
*The homework story for this week is "The Rooster Who Went to His Uncle's Wedding."
*Order forms for the book we are publishing "My Second Grade Me" are due by this Friday.
*We will be exchanging valentines in our classroom this Friday, Feb 13th. We will be making bags in the classroom, so there is no need to send one in. I have attached a class list if students would like to address each of their valentines. Otherwise, they can just sign the "from" part of the valentine.
*We will also enjoy a Mardi Gras party this Friday. Thank you to all who have donated items and/or their time to make this a fun event!!
*There is no school on Monday, February 16th for President's Day.

What are we learning this week?
Faith - First Reconcilitation on Wednesday!
Reading- This week we will focus on the moral of a story in fiction texts. We will also practice using conext clues.
Math-We will continue our module - Shapes and Time with Fraction Concepts working on telling time in five minute increments.
Science - We move back into science this week with some heart/valentine themed mysteries.
Writing - We will begin planning our next unit - Opinion writing
