Life cycles are interconnected to each other and help us understand the world around us. In this lesson, students will use augmented reality to learn about Complete and Incomplete Metamorphosis. The Technology lessons will start after the content has been covered in Mrs. Raimond's and Ms. Glaser's classes.
There are many definitions out there for Inquiry-Based Learning, and I think with true student inquiry students decide what topic they wish to learn about. In this lesson, I will group the curriculum expectations into a Big Idea and then I will create an Inquiry question that we will explore - so students aren't truly selecting their own topic. My essential questions are outlined below.

Metamorphosis - Kids Encyclopedia Facts. Metamorphosis in biology means the process of transformation from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages. Augmented Reality - Augmented reality (AR) is a field of computer research which deals with the combination of real world and computer generated data. At present, most AR research is concerned with the use of live video imagery which is digitally processed and "augmented" by the addition of computer generated graphics. Advanced research includes the use of motion tracking data, fiducial marker recognition using machine vision, and the construction of controlled environments containing any number of sensors and actuators.

We are looking for inventors to join St. Thomas More Parish School 's first annual Invention Convention.
We are looking for inventors to join St. Thomas More Parish School 's first annual Invention Convention.
This year our school will be participating in a special kind of science fair called the Invention Convention. It is designed to promote your child's problem-solving and creative-thinking skills. Your child will be following a step-by-step process to invent a new product or develop a new method for doing something. The convention is open to students in grades 1st, 4th & 8th .

We will begin our preparation for the Invention Convention by having the students learn about inventors and their inventions. By doing so, we hope the students will gain an appreciation for the invention process and thus be better prepared to create their own inventions. The first step in the actual invention process will be finding an idea for an invention. Your child will be encouraged to find a problem that needs to be solved. He or she may ask if you have a need for something that will help you solve a problem. Your interest and encouragement at this stage will help to make the invention process a fun learning experience for your child.
