Life cycles are interconnected to each other and help us understand the world around us. In this lesson, students will use augmented reality to learn about Complete and Incomplete Metamorphosis. The Technology lessons will start after the content has been covered in Mrs. Raimond's and Ms. Glaser's classes.
There are many definitions out there for Inquiry-Based Learning, and I think with true student inquiry students decide what topic they wish to learn about. In this lesson, I will group the curriculum expectations into a Big Idea and then I will create an Inquiry question that we will explore - so students aren't truly selecting their own topic. My essential questions are outlined below.
What happens during metamorphosis? Have students use the app Joy Doodle to draw the Life Cycle of the Butterfly and Bee.
What are the stages of each metamorphosis (Butterflies & Bees)?
Why is it important for insects to go through metamorphosis?
What is complete and incomplete metamorphosis?
How is Augmented Reality Different from Virual Reality? (Technology)
Students will use the internet to VALIDATE (support/prove) their answers to the essential questions. Student will use several websites torify their information.

Metamorphosis - Kids Encyclopedia Facts. Metamorphosis in biology means the process of transformation from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages. Good examples are insects and amphibians. Life for most insects begins as a larva or nymph then progresses to the pupa stage and ends as an adult.Nov 21, 2019
Symmetry - is when an object looks the exact same on one side as the other.
Extinction of a particular animal or plant species occurs when there are no more individuals of that species alive anywhere in the world - the species has died out. This is a natural part of evolution. But sometimes extinctions happen at a much faster rate than usual.

Applications - Programs that accomplish certain tasks such as write letters, analyze numbers, sort files, manage finances, draw pictures, and play games. Also known as apps on mobile devices.
Menu - a list of things that you can choose from; especially computers : a list shown on a computer from which you make choices to control what the computer does.
Operating System (OS) - The main software for that computer. Every computer, tablet, and smartphone includes an OS that allows it to work.
Touchscreen - you do not need a keyboard to operate; you can just touch the screen to do stuff, such as on a tablet or smartphone (and some computers).
Augmented Reality - Augmented reality (AR) is a field of computer research which deals with the combination of real world and computer generated data. At present, most AR research is concerned with the use of live video imagery which is digitally processed and "augmented" by the addition of computer generated graphics. Advanced research includes the use of motion tracking data, fiducial marker recognition using machine vision, and the construction of controlled environments containing any number of sensors and actuators.
