Divergent Presentation Schedule

Presentations begin on Monday, December 2nd.

Divergent Novel Project

In groups, students will choose 5 pieces of evidence that showcase a key theme of the novel and present them to the rest of the class. This will demonstrate understanding of the novel and will serve as preparation for the Term 1 exam. Working periods from November 25-29th.

The Pearl Essay

Students will have class time to complete the following: In a five paragraph essay, discuss the parable of The Pearl - i.e. the significance of page 1. Due: Friday, November 15th.

The Pearl Chapter 1 & 2 Questions

1) What do we learn about the setting in the opening chapter? Be as descriptive as possible. 2) What do we learn about this family? 3) Why do you think Steinbeck included the first section about life in the Gulf waters? 4) To what new Song are we introduced? What do you think it means? Due: Friday, October 18th.

Assignment #2 - "Warren Pryor" by Alden Nowlan Analytical Paragraph

Students will have 2 classes to complete the following: In 6-8 sentences, prove that the theme of the poem "Warren Pryor" by Alden Nowlan is sacrifice. Due: At the end of class on Wednesday, September 25th.

Assignment #1 - Identity Song Seminar

You will choose a song that relates to the idea of Identity, in your opinion. After playing the song for the class, you will briefly (in 3-4 sentences) explain why you chose that song. Assignments will be marked out of 10 (/5 for Song & Explanation, /5 for Participation). Seminar begins on Wednesday!
