8th grade Focus:

The 8th graders are finishing their study of allegories this week. They are reading Leo Tolstoy's "How Much Land Does a Man need?" with a test date on this story Friday, April 1st. They will also begin writing their own allegorical story this week!

Our final unit this trimester will be Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The 8th graders will read the full play in class, memorize and recite a passage, and translate a selection from the play into modern English. This play will be the bulk of their final exam.

7th Grade Focus:

March 28 2022

The 7th graders continue to display and present on their Vision Boards. Melina, Sam, and Carley will present their boards to the class on Friday, April 1st.

We are reading The Alchemist and applying Joseph Campbell's concept of the Hero's Journey to the structure of this novel. The students have a rigorous reading schedule these next two weeks as they will average 15-20 pages in the novel per night (plus some in class reading).

Finally, we will begin our last major work this trimester soon: Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

6th grade Focus:

March 28

The 6th graders are nearing the end of Peter and the Starcatchers. The last two study guides are due March 29th and April 5th. Their Peeps project will be due towards the end of April, so they should have an idea in mind as well as purchased whatever materials they need.

Finally, the 6th grade will soon begin our last major work of this school year, William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. The 6th graders have taken notes on Shakespeare's background, life, and times, and we will begin reading the play this week. Assignments for this play will include: creating memes based on ideas/characters in the play, memorizing and performing a short passage in front of the class, and even translating some of the play into modern English with a partner. We will read the entire play together in class, and the students will have study guides to complete after each act. The Merchant of Venice will be the focus on their third trimester exam.
