Services-Coyote Ridge Gifted and Talented Service Design

Primary Students: kindergarten-2nd grade

All primary students are considered for gifted/talented and other advanced level services as the teachers get to know the learning potential and testing readiness of each child. This consideration is a collaborative effort that involves lessons specifically designed to reveal that potential.

Kindergarten

All students will receive the following GT services:

· Classroom teachers with a minimum of 6 hours of GT training

· Four LISD Planned Experiences led and assessed by GT facilitator in regular classrooms

· Non-Verbal ability assessment (January)

· Curriculum differentiation by the classroom teacher as needed

Grade 1

All students will receive the following GT services:

· Classroom teachers with a minimum of 6 hours of GT training

· Three LISD Planned Experiences led and assessed by GT Facilitator in regular classrooms

· Curriculum differentiation by the classroom teacher as needed

Students with evidence of emerging GT potential in Kindergarten Planned Experiences and/or non-verbal ability assessments will be placed in 1st grade GT Cluster Classrooms at the beginning of the school year. Near the end of 1st grade, parents of students with evidence of GT potential and testing readiness will be notified of opportunities for GT identification testing.

Grade 2

All students will receive the following GT services:

· Classroom teachers with a minimum of 6 hours of GT training

· Two LISD Planned Experiences, led and assessed by GT Facilitator in regular classrooms

· Curriculum differentiation by the classroom teacher as needed

· Opportunities for GT identification testing during the second semester

Grade 3

All 3rd-grade students will be screened for GT potential in the fall. This screening is a nonverbal assessment, the NNAT, and will produce data used in deciding whether full GT testing is recommended.

Intermediate Students: Grades 3-5

All students will receive the following GT services:

· Classroom teachers with a minimum of 6 hours of GT training

· Curriculum differentiation as needed may be provided either in homeroom or in GT-specific classes based on need.

· Opportunities for GT identification testing throughout the year

All identified GT students have an annual individualized GT Service Plan, designed by the campus GT facilitator with input from the student’s parents/guardians and classroom teacher, indicating GT services that will be provided to best meet the child’s educational, social, and emotional needs. Services may be adjusted at the end of the grading periods, semester, and/or school year if a student needs a change.
