Technology/Computer Classes
Excellence in education requires that technology is seamlessly integrated throughout the educational program. Our teachers here at St Ben's are master facilitators of learning. St Ben's technology includes a computer lab where all students receive instruction aligned with Iowa Core's - 21st Century Technology Literacy Skills and Iowa's Computer Science Standards twice a week. Our Digital Learning Environment provides an iPad 1 to 1 setting to support student learning in the classroom and at home. St Ben's Fourth through Eighth grades take iPads home, thus providing equal access for all of our students.
K-2:
The Early Childhood Unit will use applications and web-based learning tools to reinforce classroom curriculum while simultaneously learning the basics of computer use. We build on the learned skills each year to help develop necessary skills to produce quality products using the technology available to us. At this level, students are also introduced to basic
Computer Science and programing.
3-5:
The Intermediate Unit develops skills to safely and effectively use the internet for educational purposes. In addition, they use a variety of programs which support the classroom curriculum, including word processing, spreadsheet creation and use, presentation tools (multimedia), educational games, and organizational tools. These students begin to apply Computer Science skills using iPads to program Sphero® and begin using CAD (Computer Aided Design) to create and print on our MakerBot® 3D Printer.
6-8:
The Middle School Unit builds on and applies skills learned in earlier grades through a variety of projects. Students are introduced to a variety of multimedia formats such as iMovie, Keynote, SCRTACH and website design applications. Students also learn to seek out and utilize online productivity tools. St. Benedict students enter high school well prepared in the use of computer technology.
