Shwan Adam Aivas earned his Ph.D. in Communication, Culture, and Media Studies from Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom, in 2017. His doctoral dissertation, titled "Kurdish Journalism Cultures: Shifting Boundaries of Privacy Understandings amongst Professional Role Orientations of Journalists", explores the evolving professional roles, epistemological orientations, and ethical principles within Kurdish media contexts. He currently serves as a senior lecturer at the Technical College of Administration, Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU). In parallel with his academic role, Dr Aivas is the Editor-in-Chief of DERGAWAN, Iraq’s first magazine dedicated to media education. He also holds consultancy roles, serving as an academic advisor to both Click Iraq Company and NextStep Fair, along with working as the General Coordinator of the CHMK National Forum on Media Reform. Dr. Aivas’s areas of expertise include media ethics, media production with AI, media freedom and civil liberties, privacy policy, media content regulation, and journalism cultures. In addition to his academic and professional engagements, he is actively involved in civil society initiatives. He is the founder of the Kurdish Academics Network and chairperson of the Kurdish Media Watchdog Organisation (CHMK.ORG), both of which aim to promote scholarly collaboration and ethical media and academic practices.
