Dr Shwan Adam Aivas (cited as Aivas, S. A. | ORCID: 0000-0001-5852-6169) is an Associate Professor of Communication, Culture, and Media Studies in the Department of Media Technique at Sulaimani Polytechnic University (SPU), Iraq. A UK PhD alumnus of Nottingham Trent University, he serves as a Visiting Research Associate in the Department of Media Studies and the Centre for Digital Media and Communication (CGMC) at SOAS University of London. His active research project, Decolonising Media Reform in the Age of AI: Re-imagining Media Governance in the MENA, critically examines the evolution of journalism cultures in post-conflict societies, algorithmic media governance, and digital democratic resilience. An internationally recognised scholar, Dr Aivas focuses his research on newsroom ethics, privacy policy, and local regulatory frameworks benchmarked against global standards. Dr Aivas serves as Lead Guest Editor for the Journal of Digital Media & Policy (JDMP, Vol. 19.1, March 2028) and holds editorial appointments across peer-reviewed publications, including the International Journal of Literature, Linguistics and Humanities (IJLLH). Beyond his academic output, he leads policy reform and public engagement as Chairperson of the Kurdish Media Watchdog Organization (CHMK) and Editor-in-Chief of DERGAWAN Media Education Magazine.
