Policies and Proceedures

Class Objective: To explore and discover the history of Texas and how and why we became the Texas we are today.

Curriculum: Scope & Sequence of Texas History Class.

Throughout the school year we will focus on the history of Texas from the times of the Native Peoples through the Modern Era. We will look at the Geography, Native Americans, Age of Exploration, Colonization, Texas Revolution, Republic of Texas, Statehood, Civil War, Western Frontier, Cattle & Cotton, Progressive Era, Oil in the New Century, WWI, The Great Depression, WWII, Modern Texas, Arts & Culture of Texas and Government.

In 7th grade we will lay the foundation for 8th grade by comparing and contrasting what happens in Texas and the U.S., especially in relation to the Revolutions, the Declarations of Independence, Constitutions and Westward Expansion. Many vocabulary terms in 7th grade will roll over to be applied in 8th grade as well.

Grading Scale: Students grades will be in 2 categories.

DAILY GRADES 50% = daily assignments

MAJOR GRADES 50% = tests & projects

All students will participate in NATIONAL HISTORY DAY as well. This year the theme is Tragedy and Triumph. The DUE DATE for projects is Friday, November 30th. Students have received packets of information and most all work is to be done OUTSIDE of CLASS. Go to nhd.org for more information, such as guidelines, rules for each type of product etc.

Classroom "Rules"

1. Students are to use the Restroom during the passing period, BEFORE class begins!!!

2. Students are to use their INDOOR VOICE at all times.

3. Unless the activity of the day includes walking around the room, students need to stay at

their assigned table/group.

4. Students need to be prepared for the day with all supplies needed for class.

5. Students will be respectful of others and their belongings.
