BookTubes

Overview

BookTube movies are book promotional videos created by students for students.

The primary goals of this project are to: 1) promote reading and literacy efforts 2) cultivate student cooperation, innovation, and creativity 3) increase students technical and production skills 4) foster speaking, presentation, and communication skills.

“BookTube,” brought to you by the “Springfield Literacy Network” (SLN), is a joint multimedia and social networking project facilitated by the Media Specialists from two middle schools and four elementary schools to promote reading. Teachers can enhance their own technical knowledge, digital citizenship, and communication literacy by working collaboratively between grade levels to create lesson plans for producing book promotions, evaluate and refine teaching practices to increase effective and engaging instructional strategies, and teach students how to communicate and respond to peer work in an appropriate and useful manner.

Students from Briggs, Centennial, Douglas Gardens, Ridgeview, Thurston Middle, and Walterville schools are reading books and producing their own BookTubes.
