7th grade English explores the foundations of literary analysis and writing. Students will engage with a variety of texts, including novels, short stories, poetry, and drama, from different time periods and genres. Through reading, discussions, essays, and creative projects, students will develop critical thinking, analytical writing, and communication skills. It also fosters a deeper understanding of grammar, spelling and vocabulary study.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
Analyze literary texts for themes, symbolism, and stylistic elements.
Write clear, cohesive essays with strong arguments supported by textual evidence.
Compare and contrast works from different literary periods and cultural contexts.
Develop creative writing pieces inspired by course texts.
Engage in thoughtful discussions about literature and its relevance to modern issues.
Apply proper grammar, syntax, and citation conventions (MLA format).
Read student choice novels and create a variety of projects to explain the novel.
Students will have access to a variety of textbooks that we will use as well as supplemental materials that will be provided to them throughout the year by the teacher.

Assignment/Homework Procedures:
Assignments will consist of daily work, writing, reading, and grammatical practice throughout the year. We will also work on spelling. Your student will read novels and other pieces that support the class objective. We will work through Google Classroom and paper handouts. Those items can be turned in electronically, if applicable, or in the turn in box in my classroom. Late work will be accepted with discounted total throughout the trimester. However, there is a late penalty starting in the first trimester. The first trimester is a 20% deduction, the second trimester will be a 30% deduction, and the third trimester will be a 40% deduction.
Grading Scale:
We will be using the SMS grading system for my class.
