Darwin’s Origin of Species, 1859

-Social Darwinism: The principles of evolution, including natural selection, applied to human societies, social classes, and individuals as well as to biological species developing over geological time

-Herbert Spencer, in 1864, coined the phrase “survival of the fittest”

-”Eugenics” (1883, Francis Galton): The study of how to arrange reproduction within a human population to increase the occurrence of heritable characteristics regarded as desirable.
