My name is William Brennan, and I have been teaching in Sparta since 2004. I have taught, or teach now, Russian levels one through four, US History I and II, World History, and Holocaust and Genocide studies. I am currently working on a Master's Degree in History through American Military University. My main research focus is on genocide and mass violence.
I grew up in New York City and after high school I enlisted in the US Army, where I trained to become a Russian linguist at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California and was stationed in Germany. After military service I studied Russian, History, and Political Science at the State University of New York at Albany, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. I have published two articles related to genocide in the American Military University's history journal, the Saber and Scroll. See links below.
I believe in the importance of travel for education and I have co-led trips for Sparta High School to Moscow and St. Petersburg. I have also co-led school trips to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
