¡Hola! Yo soy Señor Crouse. ¡Bienvenidos a mi sitio! The Spanish language has been a big part of my life since I joined the Peace Corps after college. I spent more than two years in a small village in Panama, teaching environmental science to children in surrounding towns from ages 5 to 15 and working with teachers around the country to design an environmental science curriculum.
When my service was up, I jumped on a bicycle and, with two of my buddies, started pedaling north. Four months and 3,500 miles later, we arrived in Colorado: exhausted, broke and badly in need of a hot shower. (See pic below taken in Nicaragua.) But from that experience forward, I would never see myself or the world the same way.
Since then, I have traveled through Spain and South America, done newspaper and magazine reporting in Colombia, Panama and Mexico, and used Spanish to interview countless people in the United States in my prior career as a journalist. I also made friends, learned to dance to Latin rhythms, read Gabriel Garcia Marquez novels, watched telenovelas, and developed a love for hot sauce that drives my 14-year-old son loco.
Knowing Spanish and understanding its cultures changed my life. My hope is that such knowledge will do the same for my students.
¿Listos? Let's get pedaling!
