Welcome to 8th Grade Mathematics
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 25-26 school year. I hope this letter finds all families feeling healthy and safe. Hopefully you have been able to enjoy a nice summer and you are ready to start the journey through your 8th grade year. Eighth grade is an exciting time in the life of a child. Please know that I am committed to making this the most special year possible for the children.
About Me
My name is Mr. Stephen Frangione and I will be your Math teacher this year. This is the beginning of my 32nd year of teaching, my 23rd year here in Sparta. I am so excited to be teaching 8th grade again this year. I have been an 8th grade Algebra teacher most of my career. I did have a period of time where I taught 7th grade, but was brought back to the 8th grade several years ago. Algebra is the area of Mathematics I am most passionate about, so you can imagine how excited I am to be back teaching that content. Outside of school, I love spending time with my wife and two kids. My kids are both in college now. My daughter attends Cornell University and my son attends Syracuse University. I am also a big sports fan...Go Yankees, Steelers, Nets, Devils. I am sure you will learn lots more about me as the year goes on.
For Starters
We all know Google Classroom will be the platform for our communication this year.
Let’s start by getting everyone signed in to the correct Google Classroom for Math.
Period 2 --- Pre-Algebra 8 --- oqlbuxvh
Period 3 --- CP Algebra 8 --- aeurn4fh
Period 5 --- CP Algebra 8 --- 7yicq4hy
Period 8 --- Pre-Algebra 8 --- m7vbhwe4
All assignments, assessments, announcements, and other classroom relevant materials will be posted here with directions, links, worksheets, and due dates.
Please join the correct Google Classroom by the first day of school
In Addition to Google Classroom ...
So how will work be presented to you in Math class?
Teacher made PDF posted to Google Classroom.
Google Forms so responses can be submitted
IXL and Edulastic both provide excellent immediate feedback
Khan Academy provides excellent immediate feedback plus tutorial videos for support
These will be the primary ways work will be distributed. Most of you already have an IXL password from previous years and for Khan Academy and Edulastic, you can log in with your Google account. I will have your classes set up on these sites so I can follow you as you work and provide feedback to you. We will make sure everyone is set up on IXL, Khan, and Edulastic when we first meet.
Tips for Success:
Create a weekly schedule to help you organize your assignments and due dates for all classes. Every school day, go through each course’s Google Classroom to update your schedule.
Arrive to class on time with the class materials for taking notes or completing assignments.
Read all directions carefully
Write down all login and passwords for online websites (IXL, Khan, etc.).
Use resources provided by your teachers.
Reach out to your teachers when you need help as soon as possible.
Complete assignments on time.
I look forward to meeting you all and wish you the best return to school. Again, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns (stephen.frangione@sparta.org). Also, feel free to check out my web site on sparta.org. I truly want you to have a wonderful 8th grade experience and look forward to meeting you on the first day of school.
Sincerely,
Mr. Frang
