Each quarter each student is assessed in 4 main categories:
Singing
Students begin by learning to match pitch vocally. As they progress they work on vocal strength and being able to sing harmony parts.
Playing Instruments
Students at Sunflower play a variety of instruments each year including keyboards, guitars, xylophones, drums and many other percussion instruments.
Reading Music
Learning music is learning another language! Figuring out how to read rhythm and pitch is something we practice at every grade level. The ability to read music is a life skill that opens up many fun possibilities for students including playing in band or strings from 5th grade on.
Creating and Responding
Students learn to respond to music in a variety of ways including movement, writing, and class discussion. They also create their own music in every grade level at some level.
